A toolkit for detecting and managing Parkinson’s dementia can help nurses start important patient conversations

Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects predominantly the dopamine producing (dopaminergic) neurons in a specific area of the brain called the substantia nigra. It is associated with motor symptoms such as tremor, rigidity and slowness of movement.
