Linda Churm Public health consultant, Torbay Council, Torquay

Linda Churm describes how the work of the Torbay Flu’s-ease Team in delivering annual vaccinations is reaching more at-risk older people in their homes and in residential accommodation

This article outlines the innovative work and development of the Torbay Flu’s-ease Team and its role in delivering the influenza and pneumococcal vaccines to residential homes and housebound individuals in Torbay as part of the annual flu campaign. All members of the team are bank nurses, who come together each year to deliver the service. These experienced nurses, who work part time in a variety of areas, such as practice or district nursing, join the team to vaccinate elderly people in their homes or residential care. This article explains how the team operates the vaccination service, how it has developed over time and how outcomes have improved.
