Pressure sores in children: risk assessment

Judy Waterlow Freelance Lecturer, Pressure Sore Prevention/Treatment

The need for risk assessment and documentation of risk of pressure sores in children is discussed by Judy Waterlow

An article published in Paediatric Nursing in 1997 (1) summarised a research project which investigated the possibility of designing a paediatric pressure sore risk assessment scoring system. The study tested the notion that such a system could be similar to a scoring system for adults e.g. the Waterlow score (2).
