Legislation now supports equal treatment, but it will take good staff and management training to make this a reality for patients, says Hazel Platzer
It is nearly 20 years since RCN members began to campaign for fairer, better care for lesbian and gay patients. At the time, the government was bringing in Section 28, which reinforced and endorsed homophobia. It was impossible to get to the point where the RCN membership could debate the issues.
