Why cutting the required placement hours could be a mistake

It seems that some universities have underestimated the number of placement hours necessary for their nursing students to attain registration. Hundreds of nurses have had emails from the Nursing and Midwifery Council saying they had not completed the required 2,300 placement hours – some years after graduating. It raises the question: do nursing students actually need so much time on placement provided they achieve their competencies?
