Many nurses who are not on Agenda for Change contracts may need to negotiate their own pay

NHS nurses and support workers in England, Scotland and Wales are getting a 5.5% pay rise for 2024-25. The award for staff on Agenda for Change (AfC) contracts was backdated to 1 April and implemented last month. Many nurses – including most of the RCN’s NHS membership who participated in consultations in England and Wales – say it is not good enough. But what is pay like for nursing staff not on AfC contracts – those not directly employed by NHS organisations? And how do they try to secure a rise?
