Many nurses are not on Agenda for Change contracts and therefore may need to negotiate their own pay

NHS nurses and support workers in England, Scotland and Wales are getting a 5.5% pay rise this year. The 2024-25 award for staff on Agenda for Change (AfC) contracts has been delayed and will now be backdated, and many nurses – most of the RCN’s NHS membership participating in a consultation in England – say it is not good enough. But what is pay like for nursing staff not directly employed by NHS organisations and without AfC contracts? And how do they secure a rise?
