A goal-oriented therapy that leads to positive changes for service users
Solution-focused therapy (SFT), which was first developed in the US and arrived in the UK in the 1980s at the BRIEF centre in London, is now in use across the NHS to help people facing mental health and physical challenges. Since 2018, SFTs have been listed in the Nursing and Midwifery Council proficiency standards as one of the evidence-based, best practice communication skills and approaches that newly qualified nurses need.
