• To learn about the types of psychological interventions accessed by service users in the mental health rehabilitation setting
• To enhance your understanding of service users’ experiences of psychological interventions
• To consider how you could review the psychological interventions offered in your practice area to ensure these are appropriate
This article details a service evaluation that aimed to understand which service users in a mental health rehabilitation setting access psychological interventions, which psychological models were being employed and how service users experience them. Data from 221 inpatient admissions to the authors’ rehabilitation unit were reviewed via service users’ electronic records. Six service users also participated in semi-structured interviews. Of the 217 inpatient service users who were offered psychology, 201 (93%) engaged in at least one session and 126 (57%) went to receive a formal psychological intervention. Cognitive behavioural therapy was the most commonly employed psychological intervention. This service evaluation indicates that most service users will engage in psychological interventions.
