Gail Pritchard and Peter Jones explain how a multidisciplinary framework can help practitioners manage people’s eating and drinking problems
People with learning disabilities and dysphagia need specialist support and advice to ensure that they eat and drink safely, and that communication problems are taken into account. This article explains how a multidisciplinary dysphagia team in North Wales referred to a framework with an integrated care pathway in improving the standard of care for adults with learning disabilities and dysphagia. The article also describes the screening tools the team used, and the training offered to professional staff and carers.
