Benzodiazepines have been used since the 1960s because of their wide margin of safety in various clinical settings. Similarly, phenothiazines are commonly prescribed, particularly as antipsychotics. The antihistamines are becoming increasingly popular in a variety of non-prescription formulations, including sleep-aids, hay fever treatments and cough and cold remedies.
