Paediatric nursing in the year 2000 in the United Kingdom differs greatly from practice 40 years ago. It is almost universally accepted that parents should participate in their children’s hospital care, if they wish to, reflecting an alteration of the nurse-parent relationship from control by the nurse, to a more egalitarian partnership.
