Nurse education in the university setting

Liam Clarke Principal, Lecturer, Mental Health, University of Brighton, Sussex.

THE CONSERVATIVE party leader Michael Howard’s recent statement that there are too many students in higher education doing too many ‘Mickey Mouse courses’ begs the question of whether he had nurses, as well as others, in mind when he said it (BBC News 2003). Echoing Mr Howard’s complaint about Mickey Mouse courses, higher education minister Margaret Hodge called for an expansion of two-year vocational courses (Woodward 2003).
