Work together to combat superbugs

Louise Christie , South Yorkshire

Further to your report on infection control (news December 10), I have just seen a news programme that blames nurses for the spread of hospital-acquired infections such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The report blamed the spread of ‘superbugs’ on nurses’ poor hand-washing techniques. I then watched a senior nurse demonstrate ‘newly developed’ aseptic, non-touch techniques. I trained in Hull in 1994-97 and such techniques were even then an important part of the curriculum.
