In 1964, at the age of 11, I joined the local church choir. One Sunday, a school ‘friend’ tried to start an argument with me in the vestry. Having no desire to be drawn in I made a hurried exit. However, despite my attempts to avoid her, she ran after me shouting, ‘Your Mam’s a loony,’ several times.
