Nursing's obsession with standards is merely the modern equivalent of setting all the bed wheels straight, argues Annie Chellel

I have just received from nursing management a copy of their declared 'Standards for nursing practice'. It is a list of 42 ‘statements that indicate the behaviour expected of the nurse'. I presume that I am to read, learn and digest the information, but why does that leave me confused and depressed?
