Bone disease in the elderly

John Brocklehurst , Department of Geriatric Medicine, University of Manchester

This month, Professor John Brocklehurst discusses the incidence of osteoporosis in old age

There are a small number of conditions which become more common with advancing age and which seem to fall in a borderland between biological ageing and disease. The rule of thumb definition which distinguishes between ageing and disease is that ageing is universal and disease is not. In other words, ageing is a process which will affect everybody (if they live long enough).
