Vicki Burns and colleagues describe the latest advance in the Christie NHS Foundation Trust’s strategy to provide care closer to patients’ homes
The Christie NHS Foundation Trust plans to deliver 80% of all clinically suitable treatments closer to patients’ homes by April 2015. An integral part of this plan has been to provide a nurse-led mobile chemotherapy service. In October 2013, the trust launched its first mobile chemotherapy unit. It has been received positively and has provided many benefits to patients, families, staff and the chemotherapy service at the main site. Work is ongoing at the trust to make more opportunities available in the future for patients to receive their treatment closer to home.
