In the USA, some individuals are taking the giants of the tobacco industry to court and winning. Last month, Patricia Henley, 53, a lifelong smoker suffering from inoperable lung cancer won $51 million dollars (£31.7m) from Philip Morris, makers of Marlboro. This article explores recent research into the damage caused by smoking – of which lung cancer is only one part.
