Insect bites and dog bites can often trigger cellulitis infection, but there are also other causes
Cellulitis is an acute bacterial infection of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. It occurs when a break in the skin allows microorganisms to enter, and is characterised by pain, warmth, swelling and redness. Normally, cellulitis affects the lower limbs, but other areas such as the arms, face, ears and trunk may also be affected. Generally, it is thought to affect one in 40 people each year.
