Staying safe

Ruth Williams Freelance writer

Patient safety depends on various factors, including patients taking responsibility for their own care and safety. To this end, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London, has designed an ‘airline style’ patient safety card and made it available for other care providers. The card describes eight ways patients can take an active role in keeping themselves safe while in hospital, including preventing falls, blood clots and infections. There is also a short film based on the card.
