Magic mushroom

Rachel Davies Research fellow, University of Glamorgan

The Mushroom Theatre Company helps children and young people with special needs to hone their performance skills, and encourages integration with the wider community, as Rachel Davies explains

The mission of the Mushroom Theatre Company is ambitious: ‘To promote and encourage each student to achieve their full potential in a totally inclusive, safe and happy environment.’ Children and young people, ranging in age from three to 29, who have special needs are enabled to integrate into all the Mushroom activities: dance, drama, singing, classes, rehearsals and performances. There is also a dedicated special needs class for those who prefer.
