A pilot project that introduced young people and their families to the benefits of individual budgets has been a resounding success. Vicky Donnelly and Ian Brooke-Mawson report

Two years ago, Bradford took part in a pilot project called Dynamite, the aim of which was to support the introduction of individual budgets (IBs) among young people with learning disabilities going through transition. Budgets for the six young people involved in the pilot have now been up and running since summer 2007 and almost a dozen more families looked forward to budgets being set up for their young person when he or she left school or college this year. This article reflects on the pilot and provides feedback on the experiences of the six young people and their families.
