Clinical nurse specialists: a reflection on practice

Paula Ryan and Owen Doody discuss the reasons for, and results of, a self-assessment audit undertaken by an intellectual disability nurse in Ireland

This article reports on a self-assessment audit of a clinical nurse specialist in health promotion and intellectual disability care. The audit addresses the core concepts of the role as laid down by the National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery in Ireland, the results of a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats analysis, and planned improvements to the role.
