A collaborative health promotion strategy

Lynn Gill Strategic health facilitator, Equally Well Programme, Portlethen, Aberdeenshire

A series of events to disseminate healthy messages throughout Learning Disability Week proved useful to those who attended, says Lynn Gill

Reducing health inequalities and promoting health opportunities for people with a learning disability are essential if their unmet health needs are to be addressed. NHS Grampian learning disability staff, Equally Well Change Programme staff and local health information centre staff collaborated during Learning Disability Week in running open events to promote accessible health information and wellbeing for this marginalised group. The sessions included mini-health checks, food tasting and key health messages. Detailed feedback obtained from attenders and staff allowed careful evaluation of the events and suggestions for future activities.
