AIM AND INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of this article is to discuss the current incidence, prevention and management of tuberculosis (TB) and to review the clinical features of pulmonary TB. After leading the article, the nurse should be able to:

Describe the pathological processes of pulmonary TB

Discuss appropriate nursing measures for the prevention of cross infection

Discuss the factors affecting the incidence of TB

Describe the vaccination programme undertaken to prevent TB

Discuss the role of the nurse in relation to patients with TB.
