Alcohol health education programme for schools

Rachel Owens A&E Senior Staff Nurse, Whiston Hospital

Rachel Owens describes an emergency nursing approach to health education of teenagers

The purpose of this study is to review the number of paediatric alcohol related attendances to Whiston Hospitals A&E Department. This was in order to assess if the service to this population could be improved. The study involved reviewing the department’s data between 1997 and 1998, and identifying a potential gap in the service. A proposal to improve this service was investigated and implemented, identifying and incorporating a multiprofessional approach. Finally, the paper reviews the effectiveness of this proposal which was implemented by A&E nurses.
