Health promotion is a discipline that, through education and support, helps people to change their lifestyle to move toward a state of optimal health. It may seem contradictory to say that health promotion has a role in palliative care, since the latter is appliedto patients facing imminent death whose health can never be truly optimal – however, this article explains how a philosophy of health promotion can be applied to benefit terminally ill patients.
