Jill Eveleigh , Macmillan CNS Breast Care, Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust, Thornton Heath
Susanne Hickmott Senior lecturer, Sociology, School of Human and Life Sciences University of Surrey Roehampton, Whitelands College, London

A woman diagnosed with breast cancer at Mayday University NHS Trust (MUH) embarks on her cancer journey with the help of two guides: the MUH breast unit handbook and the Macmillan clinical nurse specialist – breast care (BCNS). Through the use of focus groups, this article examines the contribution of each to the patient’s cancer journey.
