Although there are about 56,000 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed each year, the ten-year survival rate is 76% (Cancer Research UK 2021). This figure is encouraging, and shows there have been improvements in assessment and clinical management of the disease. However, such improvements rely on early identification of women with symptoms, and attendance at the national screening programme.
