Cancer of the connective tissue: STS

Dawn Currie Sarcoma clinical nurse specialist, Beatson Oncology Centre, Glasgow

This summer NICE will be seeking consultation on its final draft of guidance for a group of relatively uncommon tumours known as sarcomas. This form of cancer can occur almost anywhere in the body, resulting in a wide variety of possible presentations. Distinct pathways of care are required to manage patients with bone and soft tissue sarcomas and some require very specialised surgical and other treatments. This article examines the aetiology, presentation and management of soft tissue sarcomas.
