Student assessment using poster presentations

Kathryn Summers Lecturer in child nursing, Canterbury Christ Church University College, Kent

Kathryn Summers considers the pros and cons of using poster presentations as part of the assessment strategy for pre-registration child branch students

For children’s nurses to acquire knowledge and skills which are useful in many settings their learning should be both reflective and critical (Cree 2000). Different ways of learning and assessment, and the appropriateness of using visual messages rather than written ones, can help children’s nurses to communicate with children and their families. There is also pressure to use systems of assessment which will become useful to students when they are employed (Knight 2002)
