The pay awards are welcome but rather than solve recruitment and retention problems will they result in a reduction in NHS spending on other services?

HAS THE government finally done something right on pay? The awards announced last week mean there will be no staging and the percentage rises for some nurses may even cause a few sleepless nights for the Treasury mandarins. But, upon closer examination, the pay awards are something of a curate’s egg - good only in parts.
