Prostate cancer

Essential facts

Prostate cancer starts in the prostate gland, at the base of the bladder in men. It surrounds the first part of the urethra, which carries urine from the bladder. The prostate gland helps in the production of semen, which is also carried in the urethra. It is the most common cancer in men – one in eight will develop it during their lifetime.
