‘You must be raking it in,’ a friend said the other day, giving me a knowing wink. ‘Raking it in?’ I shrieked. It was in the papers (well it would be, wouldn’t it?) that agency nurses are earning hundreds of pounds an hour and this person had made the wrong assumption.
