Last year a group from Newcastle polytechnic made a study tour of Cuba. Here they give their impressions of what has been seen as a model by many developing countries

Cuba is the largest of the Caribbean islands, lying in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, only 90 miles south of Florida. The island covers an area of 44 thousand square miles with agriculture, including tobacco, sugar and citrus cultivation, cattle, nickel mining and textiles as major industries.
