Understanding what ‘i don’t know’ really means can be a useful counselling technique, says paul bonham

I am both a psychiatric nurse and a nurse teacher. In both roles counselling skills are essential to my professional effectiveness. 1have for some time been using a helpful technique which, as far as I am aware, has not been acknowledged in contemporary counselling literature. The technique involves being more aware of the reasons why people use the phrase ‘I don’t know'.
