A lack of black and minority ethnic (BME) nurses in senior positions has long been an issue for the NHS. BME staff make up more than a third of Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registrants, according to the regulator’s latest annual equality and diversity report, 2015-16, yet their representation in leadership roles is significantly lower than this.
