Changing times

Susan Briggs Manager, Manor Park nursing home, West Yorkshire

Susan Briggs developed her communication skills and knowledge base after reading a continuing professional development article on motivating change

After reading this informative and interesting article (Hunt and Pearson 2001) I decided to undertake a literature search to find out more about motivating change. The literature on the subject is diverse, with no agreed best-practice model. However, the stages-of-change model outlined in the article is easy to understand and implement and I have used it to act as a change agent. My search revealed the importance of goals and measurements to reinforce the desired changes – if changes are to be made it is essential that the benefits are monitored.
