Should nurses be asked to carry out financial assessments? asks Edwin Kelly

THERE ARE nurses employed in liaison and discharge planning roles which include aspects of care management, who are being asked to carry out financial assessments. They do so with little preparation. As the complexities of continuing care provision persist, the numbers of nurses involved in financial assessment will continue to grow, '[here is, therefore, an urgent need for recognised guidance for these nurses and their employers.
