Alcohol and unsafe sex

Julie Scott Researcher, Health Education and Promotion Services, Allington NHS Trust, Ipswich

Encouraging young people to drink less is unlikely to result in a decrease in unsafe sexual activity. Julie Scott reports on her research with young people

In response to concerns that young people in Suffolk were engaging in unsafe sexual practices after drinking alcohol, research into the possible links between the two was initiated by the East Suffolk Health Education and Promotion Services and the Suffolk Community Alcohol Services. Funding for 12 months was secured by the East Suffolk Health Authority from the allocated AIDS budget.
