Subtle changes in an older person’s presentation can be a precursor to deterioration so nurses and care home staff need to know what to look out for and act on

Recognising deterioration in nursing or care home residents is not always straightforward. The signs can be subtle at first and apparently insignificant. The resident may have existing health conditions – comorbidities that can mask the emergence of new problems.
