The beginning of autumn usually heralds a rise in cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a seasonal virus that causes lower respiratory tract infections in children. But in the summer, experts warned of an unseasonal spike in cases of the virus, which usually peaks in December, as social distancing measures were lifted and children began to mix again.
