Nursing leader Claire Johnston reveals her plans to help rebuild the Nursing and Midwifery Council – and her optimism for the future of mental healthcare
’They’re tough roles,’ says Claire Johnston, describing what it can be like to be a director of nursing in an NHS trust. They have tough challenges and they can be lonely.’ Clearly, though, Ms Johnston thrives on such challenges: she is one of a few directors of nursing to clock up more than 20 years in the role, most recently at Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, London, a provider of mental health and learning disability services.
