People living with severe mental illness often experience poor physical health, but nurses can help by promoting healthier lifestyles

People living with severe mental illness (SMI) have poorer physical health than general population. As a result, they are much more likely to die before the age of 75, mostly from physical illnesses that could have been prevented, reducing life expectancy by 15 to 20 years on average.
