Research and technology have improved the diagnosis, management and prevention of hearing loss. However, it remains underdiagnosed or not managed appropriately. Healthcare professionals find it difficult to communicate with hearing impaired people. This article provides an overview of hearing loss and highlight the role of nurses in recognising, informing, supporting, appropriately referring and communicating with patients.
