Changes in the organisation and delivery of health care have enabled children’s nurses to develop and expand practice beyond traditional nursing boundaries and to provide alternative forms of care, such as nurse-led services in ambulatory care, minor injuries, chronic conditions and palliative care (Dewar 1995, Dearmun and Gordon 1999, Peter and Flynn 2002).
