This article aims to explore the psychological aspects of cancer care from the time of diagnosis to treatment cessation. It reviews some of the main psychological issues associated with cancer, such as depression, anxiety, fear of recurrence and lack of hope, as well as identifying interventions that aim to improve the mental health of patients with cancer. The article discusses the advantages of providing such support, as well as the importance of managing a patient’s expectations and hope trajectories. Finally, the limitations of providing psychological support and the implications for nursing practice are considered.
