Lung cancer

Essential facts

Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in the UK, with more than 41,000 people diagnosed each year. It has one of the lowest survival outcomes of any cancer – more than two thirds of patients are diagnosed at a late stage when curative treatment is not possible.

Primary lung cancer can be divided into small cell and non small cell cancer. Almost 90 per cent are non small cell cancers. There are four cases in women for every five in men.
