Increasing numbers of UK travellers are visiting rabies-endemic countries. This article describes how this invariably fatal disease is transmitted to humans and how it may be prevented by increased awareness, and pre and post-exposure vaccination. It aims to help practitioners identify patients at increased risk of rabies, and looks at the common myths and misconceptions travellers may have about rabies and rabies vaccination.
